Muscle injuries

When to see a doctor first
Most muscle injuries can be treated directly with us, but there are signs you shouldn't overlook:
- Go to the emergency department if after the injury you can't put weight on your leg or move the area, if you notice a gap in the muscle or it has bunched up into a lump, or if a very large bruise appears and keeps growing.
- See your doctor if your calf is hot, swollen and sore without having made any effort, especially after a long journey, an operation or a period of rest; if muscle pain appears in many areas at once with fever or intense tiredness; or if after a very big effort your urine turns dark.
